Whiplash & Neck Pain Raleigh

Neck pain resulting from an automobile accident is referred to as whiplash. This occurs when the body is jerked in a particular manner. Almost every auto collision can cause whiplash, whether it occurs in a car, motorcycle, go-kart, or golf cart.

Injuries like whiplash and neck pain can also be caused by speed. The amount of pressure that the neck will absorb will depend on the speed at which the vehicles were involved in the collision, yet the extent of the physical damage to the vehicles may not reflect this. The collision might put enough strain on the necks of the passengers to produce whiplash, even at speeds as low as 15 miles per hour.

What Causes Neck Pain and Whiplash?

When a person’s head is jerked forward or backward, their neck muscles extend to take the brunt of the force, resulting in whiplash. Days and weeks after an automobile accident, moving the head is extremely painful and difficult due to the aberrant motion and force of the head, which is the anchor of the pressure on the muscles and tissues. More serious injuries to the cervical spine, neck muscles, ligaments, and soft tissues can also be linked to neck pain.

Our Methods for Handling Neck Pain and Whiplash

In order to thoroughly evaluate a patient’s health when they have whiplash or neck discomfort, our doctor will analyse X-rays or other imaging and do a physical examination.

In the course of the examination, the physician will ascertain whether the patient is experiencing intermittent or continuous pain, what kind of pain is being experienced (such as burning, stabbing, etc.), what causes the pain, when the patient is most likely to experience pain during the day, and how much pain the patient is experiencing on a scale of 0 to 10. After determining the severity of the pain and its underlying cause, our doctor will suggest a successful treatment plan that includes physical therapy, acupuncture, and interventional pain management approaches.
