Caudal Epidural Steroid Injection

When a person experiences a pinched nerve near the cervical vertebrae, it can result in cervical radiculopathy. This condition can affect any nerve root in the spine and lead to radiating symptoms such as numbness, pain, burning sensations, or tingling (pins and needles). These symptoms can cause pain in various areas of the body, often making even simple tasks difficult. Cervical radiculopathy can arise suddenly from injury, or gradually due to conditions like arthritis or wear and tear. This disruption can affect both work and home life.

A cervical epidural steroid injection can help relieve pain and restore functionality, allowing individuals to return to their daily activities. This technique has proven highly effective in managing pain and symptoms, empowering patients to make informed decisions about their health.

Benefits of Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection

Cervical epidural steroid injections are effective for treating pain in the neck, back, shoulders, and arms. Some of the key benefits include:

  • Targeting pain at the source
  • Improving the ability to perform daily activities
  • Reducing the need for invasive procedures
  • Enhancing overall quality of life

Conditions such as cervical radiculitis, cervical bulging discs, cervical spinal stenosis, sciatica, nerve root compression, herniated discs, and spinal inflammation can benefit from these injections.

How Does a Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection Work?

Our healthcare providers start by evaluating the patient’s medical history, family history, and symptoms. The procedure is conducted on an outpatient basis, with the patient positioned face down. The area is sterilized and numbed with a local anesthetic to ensure comfort. Fluoroscopy (live X-ray) is then used to precisely guide the needle to the affected nerve. A contrast dye is injected to confirm the targeted area before delivering the epidural steroid injection, which is aimed directly at the irritated nerve.

Most patients experience relief within 3-5 days following the procedure, with some feeling better even sooner.
