Cervical and Thoracic Epidurals

A cervical and thoracic epidural injection is an effective treatment option for alleviating pain caused by inflammation around the nerves in the neck and upper back. The epidural space, which surrounds the dura—the protective sac around the nerve roots—contains cerebrospinal fluid, the spinal cord, and nerves. An injection into this space delivers medication directly to the affected nerve roots, helping to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

The procedure begins with a local anesthetic to numb the area around the neck, followed by the insertion of a larger needle into the area where the nerves are irritated. A corticosteroid solution is then injected into the epidural space. This anti-inflammatory medication works to reduce local inflammation, providing relief from nerve pain.

Cervical and thoracic epidural injections can be used to treat a variety of conditions that affect the cervical nerve roots, such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease.
