Tendonitis

Tendons, which are composed of the body protein collagen, are present throughout the body and connect muscles to bones in the shoulder, wrist, elbow, knee, heel, and other places. Although tendinitis can affect any region of the body, the thumb base, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee are the most often affected areas. Tendons enlarge as a result of trauma or damage in tendonitis. Your joint may experience soreness, stiffness, and discomfort, mainly in the area where the tendon is linked to the bone. You may frequently suffer discomfort, swelling, cracking, popping sounds, etc., and it may be temporary or permanent. Ignoring the disease and failing to treat it might exacerbate the problem and result in chronic tendonitis. Additionally, you might experience muscle weakness, damaged tendons, trouble moving the affected area of your body, etc.

Tendonitis: What Causes It?

Anyone can get tendonitis, but those who engage in activities that put recurrent strain on the tendon are more likely to have it. The following are a few activities that can exacerbate elbow tendonitis:

  • Repetitive movement
  • Heavy lifting
  • Squeezing and twisting movements
  • Painting
  • Gardening
  • Playing tennis or golf
  • Even sitting in poor posture for more extended periods
  • Wear and tear due to aging

How is a diagnosis of tendinitis made?

Before doing a physical examination and diagnostic tests, our healthcare provider carefully reviews the patient’s medical history, family history, indicators, and symptoms. Restricted by pain or other symptoms, our healthcare professionals will move the afflicted area of the body with gentle hand movements. The goal is to evaluate the symptoms, identify the ailment, and maybe rule out other illnesses. Additionally, integrating diagnostic tests could improve our understanding and yield more precise answers. Therefore, for higher degrees of precision, MRI scans and X-rays are typically standard.

Helping patients who experience repetitive strain from their jobs or other activities is our goal at Advanced Pain Consultants, PA. Our medical professionals can create the ideal treatment plan for you based on your lifestyle and pain level so you may resume your regular activities.
