How Does Caudal Epidural Steroid Injection Work?

It is an in-patient procedure that aims to make the patient feel as comfortable as possible during the procedure. We may use mild sedation to help the patient relax while lying face down. Then, we will apply local anesthesia to the injection site to numb the skin. After that, a contrasting dye is inserted into the targeted area using fluoroscopy. Then, the needle is carefully placed into the fluid-filled area around the nerves in your spine. The medicine is then slowly injected and spreads to the area requiring pain relief. After the procedure, a bandage is placed on the injection site. Many experience pain relief within a few days. If the patient has difficulty walking, it may need to be observed for extended periods.
